Bob was a soldier with the U.S. Army during World War II. His girlfriend left him, going home to Pocatello.

History[]

Bob was sent to fight in the conflict in Guadalcanal. During the conflict, his girlfriend left him, going home to Pocatello. He came to know Chester Nakayama and Arthur Ogawa, two Japanese American translators working with the Japanese Linguist Program. He tried to compare his girlfriend's leaving him with the stillbirth of Chester's children Enrique and Hikaru, but Chester felt that it wasn't the same. Bob expressed to Arthur that he felt that Chester had "cracked" and that he hoped the new batch of translators would get there soon. ("Shatter Like a Pearl")
