Trivia[]
- In real life, Dickens was called upon by Lady Franklin to support her in defending her husband's name. He wrote a paper called "The Lost Arctic Voyagers" criticizing the conclusions of John Rae, who was told by Inuit that some men of the Franklin Expedition had resorted to cannibalism. He described the Netsilik as "covetous, treacherous, and cruel" and the same words were used by Captain James Fitzjames to describe the natives as well in episode 4.
- Dickens does not appear in the novel, but author Dan Simmons wrote another novel, Drood, featuring him as an important character.
