Chiyo was an Japanese woman. She was a distant ancestor of Yuko Tanabe.
On The Terror: Infamy, Chiyo was portrayed by Natuski Kunimoto.
History[]
In 1920, when Yuko Tanabe stood at the edge of a bridge, prepared to end her own life, Chiyo appeared before her. She warned her against what she believed she was planning to do, telling her that pain doesn't need to be washed away, that it will eventually fade. Yuko ignored the advice and jumped anyway.
To Yuko's surprise, she awoke the next morning in a bed in a structure with a clear Japanese influence. Chiyo appeared before her, telling her that she had rescued her from the water. She gave Yuko food and they ate together. Yuko noticed a design on some hanging sheets - the Yotsu Hanabishi, the crest of her ancestors. Chiyo calls it a coincidence.
Yuko soon learned that it was hardly a coincidence. She was dead and the Japanese building and grounds surrounding it were a "perfect world" created by Chiyo in the afterlife. Furthermore, the ground had areas of sand that must not be stepped into, lest one get dragged down by a demon. She discovered that she was Chiyo's descendant and that Chiyo was trying to make her into a replacement daughter for the daughter that she lost. Her daughter got dragged down into the hell of the sands because she could never live up to her expectations.
Yuko tried to escape from Chiyo, having no desire to accept her as a surrogate mother, but soon found that there was seemingly no escape. She tried knocking Chiyo out cold, only for Chiyo to appear behind her, good as new. Eventually, she tricked Chiyo by getting her to walk on the forbidden sand. As she was dragged down, Yuko offered her a stick to pull her back up. She thanked her, calling her "my child," but Yuko pulled the stick away, telling her that she wasn't her child, she was a mother. ("Taizo")
Yuko later claims Chiyo's "perfect world" as her own, dragging her son Jirou down into it. ("My Sweet Boy")
