Henry Nakayama worked for his company. He sponsored the release of Henry and his wife, Asako from the Colinas de Oro War Relocation Center in 1945 on the condition that Henry become his gardener. ("My Sweet Boy")

Shortly after this, the Colinas de Oro and other internment camps were shut down by order of the U.S. Supreme Court. Henry and his wife returned home to Terminal Island, only to find that their entire neighborhood had been razed and the entire area fenced off and designated government property. After this, Henry went to work for Corbett Delaney. Delaney seemed generally satisfied with his work, but that he needed to leave a foot between each of the lantanas. He asked Henry if he and his wife had found a place to live, offering some cozy and well-kept property at Leimert Park. Henry lied that they had already found a very nice place, not wanting to discuss how they were sleeping in an encapment on Skid Row. ("Come and Get Me")
