Guadalcanal was an island in the Solomon Islands. It was the site of a protracted battle between U.S. and Japanese forces during World War II.
History[]
As part of the Japanese Linguist Program, Chester Nakayama and Arthur Ogawa were sent to Guadalcanal to assist with the war effort. They were assigned to aid in the campaign against Admiral Takahashi and in particular to try to locate and decipher any information that might lead to Sergeant Crittenden, who had gone missing. ("The Weak Are Meat")
Later, Chester and Arthur aided in getting information out of Tetsuya Ota, one of Takahashi's soldiers, after he bit off the ear of his interrogator, Major Tebry Van Allen. ("Shatter Like a Pearl")
Chester was eventually sent back to the Colinas de Oro War Relocation Center from Guadalcanal on a medical discharge. A new group of translators took over duties there. ("Taizo")
