John Weekes is a minor character in AMC's The Terror. He is the carpenter on HMS Erebus.

In The Show[]

Weekes first appears in Episode 3 where he and able seaman John Morfin are preparing Lady Silence's father's corpse for burial. They find two charms in the hood of the dead man's parka: one of a man and the other of Tuunbaq. Not knowing what they were or what they meant, Dr. Goodsir tells the two men to put the charms back in the parka which they do. Weekes, Morfin, Des Voeux and Goodsir are then present when they bury the Shaman's body by dumping it down a firehole.

Later after Sir John Franklin is killed, Weekes is talking with George Chambers and Charles Best, and Best asks why it only takes their best men. Weekes said that it killed Sgt. Bryant and he wasn't a best man to which Best replies that he was a Sergeant but Weekes said that Bryant was just a conscript. Weekes then says "That bear don't know us". Chambers asks if it is strange the creature starts killing them after Lady Silence's father died. Weekes then remembers the charms that he and Morfin found in his parka and put back. They see Morfin start to sing "The Silver Swan", but he cannot continue as he forgets the lyrics. Weekes encourages John to continue before Charles joins in and the remaining crew members of Erebus sing along.

He survives the carnivale fire and settles at Terror Camp; in episode 8, he is gathered with the other carpenters to build a gallows.

He manages to survive Tuunbaq's attack on the camp but eventually succumbs to disease, starvation, and exposure at the end of episode 10 as he and the others tried to head south. Captain Francis Crozier later mutters Weekes' name along with Chambers while he is delirious and recovering from wounds after he killed the Tuunbaq.

In The Book[]

Weekes is killed by Tunnbaq when it attacks the Erebus.
