Masayo Furuya was an Asian-American woman living on Terminal Island.

On The Terror: Infamy, she was portrayed by Yuki Morita.

History[]

Manipulated by a malicious spirit, she committed suicide by jabbing a kanzashi pin in her ear. Not long prior to this, she aided Chester Nakayama providing him with two herbal mixtures, which his girlfriend, Luz Ojeda, was supposed to take an in order to induce an abortion.

Furuya was a regularly abused by her husband, who would beat her, get drunk, then beat her again, convinced that the bruises from the previous beating were left by another man. Together, they had a son, Toshiro. The same spirit that possessed Tanabe would later cause her husband to blind himself by looking directly into the sun.

Her funeral was well-attended by the Japanese-American community on the island. Chester took photos of the event, only to find that many of the faces came out blurred. During the funeral, the same malevolent spirit which caused her death also summoned a stiff wind, blowing down her casket and causing her corpse to fall out. Asako Nakayama described it as an "ill omen from across the sea," saying that her people had forgotten the old spirits.

Chester later speculated to his girlfriend that she had killed herself because she believed that what they were doing was wrong, and she was wrong for helping them with. ("A Sparrow in a Swallow’s Nest")

Not long after her death, her husband was sent to prison camp in North Dakota after looking directly in the sun and blinding himself, manipulated by the Bakemono Yuko Tanabe. He was looked after by Asako and the Nakayama family, who took him into their home. ("All the Demons Are Still in Hell")

Her husband was later killed by Tanabe, making her son an orphan. ("Gaman")
