The Netsilik Hunter is an unnamed character in AMC's The Terror.
Biography[]
The Netsilik hunter is first seen in the beginning of episode 1 speaking with Sir James Clark Ross and his translator about encountering the starving remnants of the Franklin expedition. He tells them he met a captain by the name of "Aglooka" in which Ross brings out photographs of Sir John Franklin, Commander James Fitzjames, and Captain Francis Crozier and asks if one of these men are Aglooka. The hunter identifies Crozier as Aglooka and how he spoke in Netsilik saying he was dying and how he and his men were heading south overland but was being pursued by the Tuunbaq. The hunter explains the nature of the Tuunbaq but the men are not able to understand. The hunter tells Ross and his translator that Crozier had died but before he did, told the hunter to tell those who may come looking for him that the ships are lost, there is no Northwest Passage, the men are dead, and that "we are gone". The hunter then gives the men some of Crozier's buttons from his clothing.
He is not seen again until episode 9 where he is talking with Lady Silence about how the world is imbalanced and it is because of white men the island has little to nothing to offer them. He tells her they will call for another shaman and because the Tuunbaq is still bound to her she will help him and the creature set things right and restore balance. Later as Lady Silence is carving a new charm, he tells her that a man most likely the new shaman, has arrived.
He appears in the next episode as Crozier is brought to his village along with Lady Silence who reveals to Crozier that her real name is Silna. The hunter asks where Crozier wants to go and allows him to spend the winter there despite Crozier killing the Tuunbaq. The next morning Crozier finds Silna gone and the hunter tells him because the Tuunbaq died on her watch, she must now be banished and he must accept this.
Two years later Ross and his translator arrive and the hunter asks Crozier what he wants to do. He tells the hunter to lie telling them the story heard earlier in episode 1 while Crozier sits outside listening in on the conversation. After hearing enough of the conversation Crozier gets up and leaves to go hunt seal.
