A sponsor was an individual who vouched for the good character of a Japanese American or other interred individual during World War II. Beginning around the beginning of 1945, those sent to Japanese or other internment camps could be released upon finding work for such a sponsor. Corbett Delaney was one such individual, who sponsored the release of Asako and Henry Nakayama on the condition that Henry work for him as a gardener. ("My Sweet Boy")
